In previous post hesitantly I bragged about the seven month span between seizures. I always ask myself, what was different, when a seizure occurs. This was Chancellor first mid-day seizure and 10 minutes before his meds were due. So 1:22 p.m. to 1:26 p.m. (4 minute grand mal).
WHAT LED UP TO IT? Two days prior woods walk, Chancellor got lost, we couldn’t find him and he had a hard time locating us (dizziness from meds or pre-ictal?)
Vomiting 330 AM morning prior. One of the symptoms of Vit D toxicity.
WHAT WAS NEW? Added a Vitamin D supplement – 1,000 mg. After I just said – NEVER ASSUME anything I go and add Vitamin D. Here is what I found out: Vitamin D can be toxic to dogs….he was on this for a few days. It may have interfered with the absorption of one of his medications. I will do a complete review on this and if anyone has anything to add, please do so.
GRAND MAL difference: Went into full bared teeth (valiantly fighting it) bared teeth was a first and violet shaking of his head afterwards – when coming out of it (so these two things need to be noted and discussed with veterinarian).
OTHER CONTRIBUTING FACTORS – liver for breakfast, bone marrow the night before (although these things have never caused a seizure in the past); puppy just walked at GreenBank Farm (where I never take Chancellor because he always has a seizure when I do – so SMELL??). Stress of me leaving him etc.
I am going to do some research on where aggression takes place in the brain. Certainly there have to be answers for dogs with seizures yet so very little known about it.
